Forklift Tire Specs
Forklifts have been an essential tool in commercial businesses and industry since 1917. Throughout its history the forklift has evolved through different forms, from a tractor with a platform attachment to a specialized high-tech equipment. Forklift tires have also evolved into specialized tires, with various kinds designed to meet particular applications.
Cushion (Solid) Tires
Rubber or solid polyurethane are the types of materials utilized to construct cushion tires. They are best for indoor work on surfaces which are smooth. The cushion tire tread is bonded or pressed onto the steel ring of the tire. Cushion tires are rated for various load capacities and for ease of steering. Cushion tires are normally used within warehouse settings.
Pneumatic Tires
Pneumatic forklift tires are filled with foam or air. They come in two types: bias or radial. Depending on the use, they are available with different sidewall protection, tread depths and weight. Pneumatic forklift tires that are filled with foam are less prone to punctures and maintain constant pressures. Pneumatic tires are normally used outdoors on rough, uneven surfaces.
Pneumatic Shaped Solid/Solid Pneumatic
The comfortable ride which pneumatic tires offer along with the puncture resistance that solid tires provide are the combined features of Solid Pneumatic Hybrid Tires. They are an option to the outdoor pneumatic tire.
Large Rubber and Flotation Tires
Used on wheel loader forklifts are large rubber tires which could either be foam, solid or pneumatic. These tires are suitable for transporting and loading heavy things onto trucks or into processing machines. Large flotation pneumatic tires are suited for masted rough terrain forklifts usually used at construction locations, automobile recyclers and lumberyards.
